DJ KOGA of DOWNWELL79s (14CATHERINE/ JAZZYSPORT BROOKLYN, JPN)
From New York, Japan, to worldwide, DJ Koga commands much attention as one of the most eclectic music producer / DJ today.
Koga started his DJ career early in his mid-teens at a local club in his native Morioka, Japan. Moved to New York City in 1999. From a ghetto block party in Jersey City to grimy festivities at Filter 14, the techno club hall of fame in the meatpacking district, he covered areas in both sides of the Hudson River. Koga decided to base himself in Brooklyn, and later formed Downwell79's with his soul ally DJ Freedom Chicken.
Philadelphia's heavyweight DJ Rich Medina took him under his wings and gave him a spot to shine at the leading New York underground club APT NYC, where Koga reps the name for JAZZY SPORT BROOKLYN. Koga then became regular DJs at various legendary underground club events in New York. allowing him to gain much deserved respect from music heads all over the world.
Throughout the years, Koga has lent his versatile musical taste and his exquisite mixing skills to world class heavyweights such as Theo Parrish, Carl Craig, Kyoto Jazz Massive, Pete Rock, DJ Spinna, Rich Medina and Ali Shaheed Muhammed. His ever-evolving style transcending House, Jazz, Soul, Techno, Afro Beat, Hip Hop, Reggae and Rock had allowed Koga firmly established himself at the cutting edge of New York and Japan underground.
In 2008, Koga left New York and made his way back to Japan to launch his long-awaited label 14 Catherine, with his own album under way.
